SHAKESPEARE: FROM PAGE TO STAGE With Peter Searles
A practical, playful performance workshop

After a physical and vocal warm-up and a brief introduction to Shakespeare’s world and language, we’ll read and explore a selection of key scenes.

Casting will be imaginative—across gender, against type and with plenty of role-swapping. We’ll try different approaches, keep the staging simple and finish with rough-and-ready performances.

No preparation or previous Shakespeare experience is needed. Open to all abilities: just turn up, join in and off we go. All scripts will be provided on the day.

PETER SEARLES
Peter Searles trained at LAMDA and has worked extensively as an actor, director and teacher, with Shakespeare forming a continuous thread throughout his career. As an actor, his classical work includes Hamlet – Royal National Theatre, Romeo and Juliet and God Say Amen with Michael Bogdanov’s English Shakespeare Company, as well as roles in Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest and the BBC’s landmark productions of Henry VI, Richard III and Titus Andronicus. He has taught Shakespeare at LAMDA, the National Theatre, Central School of Speech and Drama, Rose Bruford and numerous other drama schools and theatre companies, and for ten years led Shakespeare courses with Crisis Skylight, directing mixed casts of professional actors and people affected by homelessness in productions and platform performances of Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth and As You Like It.
