Description

In the first part of the class,  we will explore some of the favourite parts I  have played  concentrating on the Ghost  in Hamlet, Julius Caesar and Macbeth.   In the second part we will look at a speech you have brought along that we can work on.
Greg Hicks is widely regarded by critics as one of Britain’s “most complete” and “fiercely distinctive” Shakespearean actors. Known for his intense physicality and precise verse-speaking, he has led numerous high-profile productions, particularly with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

In his long and rich career, his work with the RSC, the RNT, numerous West End productions, Glasgow Citizens, and many venues in the UK and Europe includes many leading  roles and character parts; King Lear, Leontes, Coriolanus, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Brutus, the Ghost in Hamlet , Edgar, Claudius and Richard III in Shakespeare, as well as Dionysus, Orestes, Agamemnon, Teresias in Greek tragedy, Teddy in The Homecoming and  Lucky in Waiting for Godot.
Greg  has also performed  3 one man shows, most recently Dream of a Ridiculous Man at the Marylebone Theatre.

Since returning from Madrid where he lived and worked for 10 years he has performed in Oklahoma, Elektra (West End) and Grapes of Wrath at the NT.  He is currently in rehearsal for  the The Master Builder, at the Arcola Theatre directed by Mehmet Ergen which opens  mid-October.

His pursuit as ever is:    ‘The deep provocation and enquiry of language….as it is found in the great writers of the world…and how best to serve them….’
