Description
Brigid recommends that you book this class and her class on 16th November, as it is best to take both classes together to get the most out of her technique.
We all recognise the difference between learning your lines and KNOWING them!
Brigid provides a friendly secure process to this KNOWING, starting with the Direct Experience of the scene/speech; within the world of the play, in the Character and the Situation, we mean what we say and say what we mean; connecting with partners, using reliable techniques, physical action, vivid imagination, practise and muscle memory to lift the text from the page and make it belong to you.
Next year, 2027, marks 70 years since Brigid left her 3 years training at the Central School of Speech and Drama, with her classmates who included Judi Dench and Vanessa Redgrave.
Since then, Brigid has worked steadily, acting in repertory theatre and in TV, in regional theatre companies, with other young actors such as Antony Hopkins and Ian Mckellen, playwrights like Nicholas Wright and Ronald Harwood and many great young actors who have built admirable careers; after having 2 children Brigid began to teach and also got a BA in English Literature at London University.
Later she taught and directed at the National Theatre, devising and directing 3 Shakespeare tours of schools in England and Ireland, casting Adrian Lester in the first tour of Midsummer Nights Dream.
Brigid has taught and directed Final shows at LAMDA, GUILDHALL, ROSE BRUFORD and RADA where she is a Senior Tutor.
Her book ESSENTIAL ACTING pub. Routledge is available from Amazon and book shops; the 2nd edition, 2015 has been translated and published in Russia.
Brigid is now working on a book for actors between jobs: ‘For the Lonely Actor’ and a book on acting Shakespeare; and continuing to work with actors on auditions and explorations of acting on Zoom. her website will hopefully soon be available to make contacts with actors and provide talks and help with auditions and the joys and difficulties of acting
