So how do you stop trying to guess what casting wants and start creating something that is uniquely yours?
In this on-camera workshop, Hamish introduces the Margie Haber Studio approach to auditioning for film and television, developed through more than forty years of working with actors in Los Angeles.
Using professional film and television material, you’ll learn how to stop treating the audition as something to perform or perfect and start using the material as a set of circumstances you can actually live in.
We’ll explore how to make specific personal choices, connect to another person, use your imagination, work spontaneously and trust what the camera sees.
Most importantly, you’ll begin developing a process you can use on your own, when the next self-tape arrives and there isn’t a teacher, director or casting professional in the room to help you.
You will leave with practical tools for breaking down material, making choices and creating truthful behavior on camera, alongside a clearer understanding of what makes you individual and compelling in an audition.
The goal isn’t to teach you how to give a “good” self-tape.
It’s to change the way you approach the audition.

HAMISH STURGEON
Hamish Sturgeon is the Creative Director of Margie Haber Studio in Los Angeles, where he has spent more than a decade working closely with Margie Haber and coaching actors for film and television.
Originally from the UK, Hamish is also a working actor, writer and director. His recent screen credits include Rebel Moon for Netflix and S.W.A.T. for CBS, with feature credits including American Boogeywoman and Never Forgotten.
His latest short film, Gossamer, which he wrote, directed and stars in, has received multiple festival awards and was an Official Selection at the Oscar-qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival.
