A playful introduction to Contact Improvisation for beginners and explorers. Actors will learn to listen through the body: sharing and transferring weight, giving and receiving support, finding flow with different partners. Working with the floor, with partners and in small groups, we’ll explore balance, momentum, levels of touch and the exhilaration of spontaneity when we are truly in flow.
This workshop develops trust, presence and embodied listening, opening up new possibilities for physical connection in rehearsal and devising spaces.
Rosalind Parker started life as a dancer before training as an actress at Rose Bruford College and has worked in theatre for over 25 years as a performer, movement director, playwright and theatre-maker. She has created and performed three solo physical-theatre shows and, for nearly 20 years, has run The Bedlam Bunch, writing and directing immersive comedy theatre and pantomimes. She also founded Outburst Theatre, creating community and site-specific work including the intergenerational production Catford 1968. Ros has trained with Gecko and Frantic Assembly, is a member of the Shapes in Motion collective, and has taught movement at Identity Drama School and Sadler’s Wells. She is currently developing Beautiful Magic on God’s Earth, a new work created through her shamanic practice, combining dance, storytelling, live music and ensemble physical theatre.
